TATTOO FAQ

I'm getting my first tattoo, what should I know about the process?

We are honored that you’ve chosen Eighth Element to do your first tattoo!

One of the biggest things that separates us from other studios is our commitment to hygiene.

We will be using top of the line equipment and products.

Our booking team will send you a confirmation email that includes useful suggestions such as – wear clean loose clothing to your appointment, come showered, make sure to arrive hydrated and well nourished (eat 1-2 hours before your session), make sure to be completely sober, sleep well the night before, and of course - please arrive on time!

We will also be happy to answer any of your questions at any point of the process.

Where can I find my aftercare instructions?

In your receipt email, there is a link to our aftercare. You can also find it here!

I have some concerns about how my tattoo is healing. What should I do?

We are here for you throughout the entire process of your tattoo! Feel free to contact our booking team by emailing your questions to8thElementTattoo@gmail.com or call the studio at 1-714-847-4777 Tuesday - Saturday between 12pm - 8pm.

How long do I need to wait before tanning after getting a tattoo?

We recommend waiting at least two to three months, depending on how well your tattoo is healing. Tanning can fade your tattoo very quickly. Once the tattoo is completely healed, we suggest using a high SPF sunblock when out in the sun to keep your tattoos looking as good as possible for as long as possible.

How long do I need to wait to go swimming after getting a tattoo?

We recommend waiting at least a month after a new tattoo before you get back in the pool or hit the beach. Chemicals, bacteria, and sand could all be a threat to your new tattoo. If you can’t avoid the water, we suggest using a waterproof patch to cover your new tattoo.

Do you use vegan inks?

We do use a variety of vegan products in our studio (including ink). Most major pigment manufacturers are already vegan. However, each of our artists uses different products to tattoo with so you’ll want to make sure you discuss this with them before your appointment.

Do you tattoo minors?

We do not tattoo minors - even with parental / legal guardian consent. It is illegal in the State of California to tattoo a minor California Penal Code Section 653 PC and considered a crime.

Misdemeanor Offense:

Violating PC § 653 is a misdemeanor, meaning it carries a penalty of up to six months in county jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.

I got a tattoo a few days ago and now it looks scabby and is flaking. Is this normal?

Yes, scabbing is a natural part of the healing process and it’s best to let the scabs fall off on their own naturally, so don’t pick, scratch or slap your tattoo and you’ll be just fine! Follow our suggested tattoo aftercare instructions for proper healing.

Can I get a UV reactive/blacklight/neon tattoo?

We do NOT use UV reactive or blacklight ink. Through our research, we have not been able to find a pigment based ‘ink’ that will effectively heal and stay in the skin. Due to the unknown nature of the ingredient(s) used to create the  “glow in the dark” or neon effects,  we will not risk our clients’ health to unproven guesswork.  While the FDA has approved UV reactive ink for use in fishing and agricultural industries, they have NOT deemed it safe for internal use for humans. There are no reliable studies done on the long-term safety of using these inks.

Do you tattoo diabetics?

Our artists will tattoo diabetic clients. We always recommend speaking with your doctors about the risks associated. If you are in control of your sugar levels, then there is less risk of this being an issue. You’ll definitely want to discuss your condition with your tattoo artist beforehand.  It may also be a good idea to bring a snack with you in case you start to feel lightheaded. After you speak with your doctor, you can use the following form to get in touch with our booking team. If you have any other questions about getting tattooed, feel free to contact our booking team by filling out this form!

Do any of your artists do tattoos with cremation ashes?

We would love to help you create the perfect memorial tattoo. However, none of our artists use ink made with cremains or with any other outside substances added to it. If you fill out the following form, that will get you in touch with a member of our booking team. They’ll be able to answer all of your questions, match you up with the perfect artist, and get you set up with an appointment or consultation. Feel free to contact our booking team by filling out this form!

How much do your piercings cost?

All of our piercings (except: ear projects, septum, nipples and exotics) are $75 with basic jewelry included. Give us a CALL 1-714-847-4777 or TEXT 1-714-604-5111 during business hours.

How much does the jewelry cost?

We have an extensive selection of jewelry with a wide range of prices starting at $25. We will be happy to help you select the best piece for both your piercing and your budget at the time of your piercing. We use highest quality jewelry possible to help ensure that your healing process goes as smoothly as possible!

Do you take walk-ins for piercings?

Yes, we absolutely do! Walk-ins are welcome! We recommend coming in as early as you can though as we tend to be very busy. We do make appointments a priority so you may have a little wait.

Do you use piercing guns? What is the piercing process like?

We absolutely do NOT use piercing guns! Ear piercing guns can’t be sterilized and actually do quite a bit of damage to the earlobe. The guns push the actual jewelry straight through your earlobe, tearing the skin. This can cause scarring, tissue damage, and potentially a higher risk of infection.

At our studio, we pierce with single-use needles, use an autoclave to sterilize our tools and jewelry, and follow strict hygiene protocols to ensure the health and safety of our clients and staff. These procedures, combined with the high-quality jewelry we sell, help our clients heal easier and faster.

How many piercings can I get at one time?

We usually say that 2 is quite safe. If you are comfortable with the piercing process and the healing process, we will sometimes even do 4. You are always welcome to discuss this further with a piercer!

Where can I find my aftercare instructions?

In your receipt email, there is a link to our aftercare. You can also find it here!

Can I request a male, female, or non-binary piercer?

Yes, you absolutely can! When you come in for your appointment, just let us know that you’d like to have a male,  female, or non-binary piercer pierce you!

Can I see the available jewelry on your website?

We have thousands of pieces of jewelry to pick from at our shop! Our jewelry experts will help you find the perfect piece at the time of your appointment!

Can I request a specific piercer?

When making an appointment online, we aren’t able to schedule with specific piercers. However, you can send us a message through the website and ask when your requested piercer is working that week and schedule your appointment for the appropriate time. Then, you can let us know when you come in which piercer you’d like to work with!

Can I bring my own jewelry to get pierced with?

We typically don’t pierce our clients with jewelry from outside of the studio. We can’t guarantee that the jewelry, purchased outside of our shop has been through the same sterilization process, has a high polish wearing surface free of defects that we require for initial piercings and we also can’t guarantee exactly what types of materials were used. We do thorough research on all of the jewelry we carry to ensure it is of the highest quality and biocompatibility. This also helps to assure that you have the easiest healing process. We follow all of the jewelry standard guidelines and have a wide selection of jewelry with a wide price range. Our jewelry experts will be able to help you pick out the perfect piece! If you have any other questions, we would be happy to answer them for you!

I have some concerns about how my piercing is healing. What should I do?

We are here for you throughout the entire process of your piercing! Please come in and see us. It’s very important that we see issues in person. This helps us to determine what the issue is so we’ll be able to give you the best advice! Contact us or come in to see us ASAP since the body can be sensitive and things can become worse if ignored.

I need to take my jewelry out. Can you help?

We are always happy to help! If you are getting a medical procedure, we have retainers that we can put in for you. As long as you purchase the retainer at our studio, we’ll switch your jewelry for free!

If you want to change or take out your jewelry by yourself, we have created a series of videos to show you how our jewelry works. You can check them out here!

Do you pierce minors?

Yes we do! We love piercing minors! However, each of our piercers have different requirements and restrictions regarding clients under the age of 18. You can contact us for more information by reaching out over social media, emailing 8thElementTattoo@gmail.com, or call us at 1-714-847-4777. You can also read our minor policy here!

Can I bring my infant or toddler in to get pierced?

Our piercers truly love to pierce children (with their parent’s approval, of course). We think that it is a truly empowering and special experience. It is a special way to bond and to show support for each other. Because of this, we always encourage our friends, family, and clients to wait until the children are old enough to decide for themselves. We have found that by the time kids are 6 years old, they are often more than ready, and have a enjoyable experience - rather then a forced, traumatic and scarring experience.

If I just want to change my jewelry, how much will that cost?

Yes! We do jewelry changes and can help you understand how your jewelry works all for free when you purchase quality jewelry with us.. Come in to speak with a piercer!

Do your piercers do snake eye or horizontal tongue piercings?

We do not perform snake eye tongue piercings on our clients. It is an incredibly unsafe piercing. There is a high risk of rejection and it also causes gum damage and can crack or chip your teeth. Our piercers would be more than happy to help you figure out an alternative piercing like the snake bites (double lip piercings).

Do daith piercings really help with migraines and headaches?

We absolutely do daith piercings. However, we do not recommend them for any medical reasons. There is no research to support that daith piercings have any curable effects on migraines. With that being said, we love piercing daiths but only recommend them for aesthetic purposes. Our piercers would love to answer any questions you may have about daith piercings!

How long should I wait in between stretching a piercing?

The minimum time you should wait in between stretches is two month but three months is preferred! If there has been any excessive irritation, it will take longer in between stretches as well. The main thing is patience and paying attention to your body.
